Photographing is a meditative practice that connects me to nature in the most beautiful way. It allows me to slow down, destress, awaken my senses and be in the present moment. An important constant in my artwork is the feeling of tranquility it provides. I try to isolate the quietude-- that calming and serene energy-- that called me to the initial framing and pressing of the shutter button. I hold the camera in my hand during long exposures as I want my breath and body movement integrated into the picture making. This attention and stillness, a kind of focus necessary to photograph, is the same center that guides the transformation process in my mind as I work. Time is the companion I’ve come to trust and depend upon. This is not a rushed process. I want to give these interior lifescape impressions a gentle, poetic and calming effect. I know the final image has arrived when I feel the peace I found and hope to evoke. Listening to nature makes us more attuned to the quiet, often unnoticed details around us and in our daily lives . When you start listening to the subtle whispers of the wind, the rusting of leaves and tall grasses , or the rhythm of waves and rain drops , you begin to hear more clearly the whispers within you- your own instincts, thoughts and emotions. It’s a kind of mindfulness that, over time, enhances the way you connect with the world and people. Nature is my sacred space, a place where I ultimately always find myself as we are all one biological lifeform. Chelsea Bernardo

Painting is more than just a passion for me. It is a journey of expression, connection, and beauty. The human spirit desires beauty - it helps us transcend. I make art for art’s sake, in an attempt to create beauty, solace, and a sense of belonging.  As I look into this world or into myself, my head cannot stop creating multitudes of images that my heart and my hands want to put down on canvas - trying to capture the awe and wonder inside and out.   My life course inadvertently uprooted me from my home and the new one could never quite replace it. Now, I feel without a home regardless of where I am, yearning to mend the rip. This propels me to create places that make me feel whole, places of memories, places of connectedness, or just situations that capture me in the present moment, no matter where I am.  Oftenit is beautiful nature that will find its way onto my surfaces. Here I gravitate between contemporary impressionism, tonalism, and abstracted realism. I continue to strive for the craft of depicting the physical world as it appears to the eye but deviate from that more and more in order to attempt to capture the feeling of being immersed in a place in time, rather than its appearance. The results often culminate to serve as a meditative visual refuge.

A graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art, in Boston, MA, I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting. After my first solo exhibition in Concord, MA, I decided to relocate to New Mexico. Here, I began my creative journey of historically preserving a quickly disappearing piece of American History – the road sign! My focus began on the Albuquerque, New Mexico, portion of Route 66 also known as “The Mother Road", because the signs were starting to quickly disappear. The few fortunate ones adopted, repaired and hung in a museum, the less fortunate lying on their side in some alley stripped of their neon elements and just set out for the elements to eventually bring them down to an unrecognizable pile of rust. For decades these colorful, brightly lit, sometimes flashing works of art have invited us off the highways to diners, gas stations, motels and businesses. Travelers on the open roads of America were lured to new places and new experiences that added more adventure to their travel experience or just a place to rest after a long day’s journey. Nostalgia has taken the place of what were once negative comments of these aged remains on our historical Route 66. A sentimental longing for the past, for the simpler times and for a period or place with happy personal experiences. Therefore, I record a minute, but important part of the history of America as it slowly disappears. Originating from Boston I still pursue my painting interests of cityscapes, escalators, subways, trains, diners and movie marquees. My work is held in private collections in the United States, London, Germany, Spain and Thailand.

Every Stroke is a Story and Every Color, an Emotion Art has a special way of taking us on a journey. Whether we view, invest in, or create art, it can transport us and help us see the world differently. A painting, a sculpture, a piece of music, or a performance can guide us on a path of self-discovery and transformation. From the earliest moments of my childhood, the world of art drew me into its warm embrace. My parents, recognizing my deep passion, eagerly enrolled me in numerous art classes. Art and creativity became my sanctuary and source of joy and self-expression. This early artistic ambition led me to pursue a degree in advertising design, where I could translate my creativity into a tangible venture. Thus, I embarked on the adventure of entrepreneurship, founding a graphic design business. Over the course of 32 years, my dedication and hard work transformed my business into a nationally recognized marketing firm. The success and recognition for both the company and myself became a testament to the unwavering commitment poured into each project. In 2022, the time came to pass the torch, and with the company's successful sale, I found myself at a crossroads. Then, I made a bold decision: to return to my roots, rekindle my passion for fine art, and embark on a new artistic journey. In my current artistic chapter, I merge the worlds of graphic design, advertising, and fine art. Drawing inspiration from impressionism and abstract art, I channel my love for shape, form, and design onto the canvas. Each piece brings an interplay of marks and color that seeks to evoke emotions and invite viewers into a unique visual experience. Experiencing art is a personal adventure for everyone. It can bring out emotions, ignite creativity, and offer fresh perspectives. Whether in a museum, a gallery, or just walking down the street, art connects us to the world around us meaningfully. My journey as an artist is characterized by a perpetual quest for knowledge and an unwavering commitment to sharing this passion. I am a perpetual learner, driven by the desire to explore and convey the essence of human emotion through the language of color and diverse artistic mediums. With each stroke, I aim to communicate the depth of feeling within my artwork, creating a bridge that connects with the hearts and minds of those who encounter it. As I continue to navigate the boundless realm of art, my mission remains rooted in exploring emotions and connections. I invite viewers and art collectors alike to join me on this journey, to share in the vibrant tapestry of color and form that defines my artistic expression. Together, let us delve into the shared language of art, where every mark tells a story, and every hue holds an emotion waiting to be discovered. Embrace Your Journey through Art. Join me and discover where art can take you.

*Bio* *Joiri Minaya* (b. 1990, New York City) is a Dominican-American multidisciplinary artist based in New York. I work across photography, digital media, film, performance, sculpture, textiles, and painting. I was raised in the Dominican Republic. I earned an Associate’s from the Escuela Nacional de Artes Visuales in Santo Domingo, studied at Altos de Chavón School of Design, and received a BFA from Parsons School of Design in New York. My work has been shown at the Guggenheim Museum, MoMA, the Cooper Hewitt Triennial, Prospect 6 New Orleans Triennial, and Sharjah Biennial 15. I am a recipient of the Latinx Artist Fellowship, NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship, Jerome Hill Fellowship, and Artadia Award. I’ve completed residencies at Skowhegan, ISCP, Socrates Sculpture Park, and Light Work. My work is in the collections of El Museo del Barrio, Museo de Arte Moderno and Centro León in the Dominican Republic, and the Kemper Museum. *Artist Statement* My work is a reassertion of Self, an exercise of unlearning, decolonizing and exorcising imposed histories, cultures and ideas. I navigate binaries in search of in-betweenness. I investigate how the female body relates to the construction of identity, multicultural social spaces, and hierarchies. Moving between the global North and South informs my practice, shifting the location of the sexed body from domesticity to nature. I focus on destabilizing historical and contemporary representations of an imagined “tropical identity,” particularly how Black and Brown womanhood has been represented in relation to the Caribbean. Through photography, video, installation, and performance, I interrogate tropical motifs found in popular culture — floral patterns, botanical illustrations, and stereotypes — to reveal how they have been used to exoticize Caribbean women. I engage the “Gaze” placed on me and turn it upon itself: “I’ve learned there is a Gaze thrust upon me which others me. I turn it upon itself, mainly by seeming to fulfill its expectations, but instead sabotaging them, thus regaining power and agency.” In series like _Containers_ and _The Cloaking_, I use restrictive patterned bodysuits and textiles to cover bodies and monuments, layering Dominican landscapes with playful configurations that both critique and seduce. I’m also interested in “the idea of opacity, a right to remain opaque, even to yourself... and not having to explain yourself to others.” For me, gaps, disconnections and misinterpretations between cultures become fertile ground for creativity.

I thrive on capturing the essence of emotions through my abstract art. What truly fascinates me about this form of expression is its ability to resonate uniquely with each individual, with every interpretation holding its own truth. Abstract art, to me, is deeply personal. Through painting, I discovered the power to infuse every corner of my home with a distinct mood. Walking into a room now feels so good! It’s incredible that simply hanging a painting could make a space feel so luxurious and intimate. Now, my passion lies in helping others discover their own personal connections with abstract art. Admiring a piece of art isn't just observing; it's embarking on a voyage of the mind, unraveling beautiful surprises hidden within layers of paint. It’s truly an experience. It’s the same process I use to create custom paintings. I weave my clients' narratives into abstract forms, crafting pieces that are deeply intimate and exclusive to them. Think of it like telling your story, abstractly. I’m continuously inspired by nature, whether it's wandering through desert landscapes, scaling mountain trails or witnessing a sunset. My goal isn't to recreate what I see but to encapsulate the mood of those moments—the essence of nature's beauty—onto canvas.

"My work is an expression of space. What is the experience of moving? Is it pictorial? Is it an object? Is it a feeling? It all comes from my body. I am the clay; I have been extruded, in a sense. How to tie it together? I don't need to tie a knot. The forms of knots in my earlier work were expressive of this idea. I am the form." –Lynda Benglis, 2014

I primarily work with acrylics, often layering in mediums, glazes, spray paint, or pastel to bring texture and life to each piece. My process is spontaneous and deeply intuitive, shaped by personal experience. At times, I paint with bold, furious energy; at others, my strokes are more subtle—almost shy. I’m a maximalist, both in life and in my art. Larger canvases give me the freedom to work fast and unrestrained, allowing my emotions to flow without limits. My paintings are a true reflection of me, shaped not only by the world around me but also by my neurological journey. Living with epilepsy has taught me to embrace unpredictability - “It’s all done in fits and starts, quite literally!” - and that same unpredictability fuels my art. It’s not just about what I lay down on the canvas, but what I lift off. Through painting, I try to make sense of the challenges I face, channelling both the chaos and the calm. Each piece of layered work stands as a testament to my own resilience and desire to give back to the community. I am committed to supporting epilepsy research, by donating 20% of my artwork sales to The National Brain Appeal. Through art and advocacy, I hope to be a powerful voice for the epilepsy community, demonstrating that creativity can be a force for both personal healing and collective change. What I find truly special is when others connect with my work on their own terms— finding their own stories in the colours, textures, or words that I use. To spark that kind of response—to let my deepest thoughts quietly resonate with someone else—is what keeps me creating.

Paula is a self-taught professional wildlife artist. Originally from Maine, Paula now resides in beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming where her creativity is inspired daily by the natural surroundings. The best way to describe her style is contemporary realism with dramatic, yet intimate compositions. These are not your typical wildlife paintings. She has the ability and a gift of conveying the personality of the animals that is instantly recognizable and endearing to her collectors. Paula artwork reflects her deep connection with animals, and she works hard at creating these visions with each brush stroke. “I have such a love for all animals so I try to portray their sweet and gentle demeanor in each of my paintings. I want my Wildlife Portraits to inspire others to feel the same as I do.” Paula has been drawing ever since she picked up her first pencil as a child, and was instantly fascinated with using charcoal pencils to sketch wildlife. It wasn't until 2015 that Paula decided it was time to put down the pencils and pick up a paint brush. She quickly fell in love with painting, and over the years has continued to evolve. As a self-taught artist, she takes pride in learning her own techniques through trial & error, along with lots of motivation, patience and hard work. Her love and appreciation for all animals has progressed over the years along with her artwork. She pays close attention to even the smallest details that go into each piece. Her collection of work can be seen at numerous galleries and locations around the country (see Accomplishments). Paula has happily donated paintings to local charities for the Jackson community such as the annual St. Johns Hospital Spring Fling, Tuxes & Tails Gala, Animal Adoption Center fundraiser, The WhoDunnit, The Art of Love Plate Auction, and many more. When Paula isn't working hard in her studio, she is out exploring the outdoors and all that the mountains have to offer. "Animals, art, nature, and being creative are my passions in life. I love combining these elements to create unique and fun pieces for all to enjoy. My hope is to show this passion & love through my work so that others can appreciate it and feel inspired.”

Wendy Leach has been an artist in Maine for almost 25 years. She has recently moved to Brooklyn, NY where she shares a studio with her granddaughter Nora Wiley-Schwartz. When asked about her arts Wendy says, “I am inspired by the natural beauty of our environment, the inward explorations of the human mind, the human figure in both environments, and the work of artists throughout the centuries. While I am not compelled to paint everyday, after a short time at the easel the painting seems to take over.   I like to say that painting feeds my soul. I draw or paint from life, but for me, it is all about the process; subject is less important. I find freedom when I use a variety of media to explore color relationships, interesting shapes, and linear movement.  Of these explorations, COLOR is by far my favorite.  The infinite possibilities for putting paint to surface fascinate me.  Each time I approach the easel I am eager to see what will happen as I work to integrate what I know about painting with my intuition and inspiration..”
